Impressions from the first workshop on complex terrains

The first PROBE workshop on atmospheric boundary layer profiling in complex topography was held online on 23rd September 2021 and brought together more than 50 scientists from over 20 countries.

The three first talks gave a brief overview of the cost action PROBE, previous studies on ABL in complex topography and the plans for ABL profiling in the upcoming TEAMx field campaign.

Short summaries of research interests and current projects were given by fourteen groups on diverse topics including ABL measurements, modelling studies and instrument development.

Finally, clear interest in sharing experiences on the best practices and specific problems of measurements in complex terrain, in inter-comparison between atmospheric profiling instruments and in a review of local phenomena influencing ABLH in complex terrain leading to a better theoretical understanding were expressed.
